Quick answer

My published starting prices in Madeira are the same as those I use elsewhere in Portugal: landing pages from €800, brochure sites from €1,500, online stores from €3,000 or subscriptions from €49/month. Other providers may charge differently. Request a detailed phase-by-phase quote and confirm what is included (hosting, maintenance, baseline SEO) before signing.

How much does a website cost in Madeira?

For my projects, location does not change the starting price: delivery happens remotely. Landing pages from €800, brochure sites from €1,500, online stores from €3,000 and web apps from €5,000 are my published starting points; scope determines the quote. The pricing guide explains each format.

What differs in Madeira is not the price; it is the transparency. The local offer still lives on closed quotes "by email, depending on the project", with no public price lists. That does not make the prices bad; it makes them hard to compare. The practical answer: request three quotes with the same written scope and compare what each includes: hosting, maintenance, baseline SEO and the number of revision rounds explain more of the difference between proposals than the final figure does.

Web design in Funchal: who does what

The regional offer splits into three types of provider, each with its own cost and risk profile:

  • Local agencies. Team and process, a portfolio of regional clients, but, in most cases, no published prices and custom projects as the only format. The natural choice for large projects that need a team.
  • Freelancers. A lighter cost structure and direct communication with the person doing the work. A local freelancer adds the advantage of the time zone and availability for an in-person meeting in Funchal when the project justifies it.
  • DIY builders (Wix, WordPress). The cheapest route in money and the most expensive in time and outcome, the same old debate, valid everywhere: see when it pays off in the price guide.

A fourth path that is still rare on the island: the website subscription, a professional site from €49/month, no upfront investment, with hosting, maintenance and changes included. It is the format I recommend to most small businesses in the region that want to be online in days, not months.

Is it worth hiring from outside the island?

It is worth hiring whoever executes well, inside or outside Madeira. What distance really changes is little: the work happens by email and video calls, files travel in seconds and the website proof is reviewed online before launch. A provider from the mainland or abroad with written prices and deadlines usually beats a local provider with neither.

There is one case where proximity genuinely matters: projects that require presence, photography of the premises, strategy meetings with several people in the room, in-person team training. Even then, the usual solution is hybrid: remote execution and one or two on-site meetings. Based in Funchal, I get the best of both worlds, and zero travel costs for businesses in the region.

How to choose a provider in Madeira (checklist)

Regardless of location or price, these six points separate a good quote from a future problem:

  1. Real, verifiable portfolio. Delivered websites, with names, that you can open. Screenshots "from projects" without a link do not count.
  2. Published prices or a phase-by-phase quote. Price transparency is the first sign of process transparency.
  3. What stays included after launch. Hosting, backups, updates and content changes, either it is explicit, or you pay for it separately. See what it costs in the maintenance guide.
  4. Written deadlines for both parties, including what happens when content arrives late.
  5. Ownership. Domain, content and code: what stays yours, when and how.
  6. Baseline SEO included. Titles, descriptions, speed and sitemap configured at launch, not as a paid phase two.

The website types most requested in the region

The following formats have navigable prototypes you can open and test; these are demonstrations, not delivered projects for the fictional businesses shown:

Each of these formats exists in the subscription plans with a template tailored to your brand, the fastest way for a regional business to get a professional website: first version in 7–14 business days, no upfront investment.

This guide looks at the island as a whole; for those choosing a provider by area, there are dedicated guides per municipality: Funchal, Câmara de Lobos, Machico, Santa Cruz, Calheta and Porto Santo.

How much does it cost to build a website in Madeira?
My starting prices are the same in Madeira and elsewhere in Portugal: landing page from €800, brochure site from €1,500, store from €3,000 or subscription from €49/month. These are this provider’s prices, not a market average. See the pricing guide.
Does a website cost differently if the provider is in Madeira?
It depends on the provider, scope and any necessary travel. For my service the starting price is the same on and off the island; other professionals may have different costs and terms. Compare quotes for the same scope.
Is there web design in Funchal with published prices?
Yes; it is precisely what most of the local offer lacks and what this site practises: all starting prices are published (landing from €800, brochure sites from €1,500, subscription from €49/month) and quotes are detailed phase by phase.
How long until it is ready?
Landing page: 2–3 weeks. Brochure website: 4–6 weeks. Online store: 6–10 weeks. Subscription: first version in 7–14 business days. Timelines run from receipt of your content, the timeline guide explains it phase by phase.
Do you work with businesses across the island or only in Funchal?
With businesses across the region, and the rest of Portugal and abroad. The whole process runs by email and video, in Portuguese or English; Funchal proximity is there for anyone who wants an in-person meeting, never as a condition or an extra cost.
